Peel Holdings are committed to environmental projects.
The company already works closely with a number of trusts and environmental
organisations such as the Environmental Agency,
Forestry Commission and RSPB
on a number of schemes including Botany Bay Wood,
the largest woodland in Greater Manchester.
Botany Bay Wood, owned by Peel Holdings
was brought into management as part of Red Rose Forest. The 84 hectare
site in Worsley now provides an excellent habitat for a variety of wildlife
and is an important site for a colony of heron. Deer have also been spotted
in the area.
Peel Holdings intend to transform 100 acres of former quarry on the Calder
Park site into a wildlife haven to ensure the protection of various
bird and nature species.
Many swans, ducks and other wildfowl are already regular visitors to Calder
Park.
The parkland will be owned and managed by the Environment
Agency upon completion.
The wetland nature reserve will be designed in full consultation with
the RSPB and English
Nature and will become a haven for many important species such
as the Lapwing and Redshank.
The conservation and enhancement of the wetland nature reserve are an
important part of the development of Calder Park.
