Can you give me a brief overview of the employment
statistics of the area?
Employee Jobs by gender and
employment status
There were 113,500 people employed in
the Wakefield District in 1997 which was 1,600 more than in 1991.
The 1997 Annual Employment Survey shows that just over
half the Districts workforce (50.1%) are
women which is above the national average of 49.0%. Female economic
activity rates have consistently grown in recent years and this trend
is expected to continue.
Although male employment has been declining since 1978, results from
the 1997 Employment Survey shows a 7.5% increase
in the number of males employed since the previous Survey in 1996.
According to the Survey there were almost 5,700
more jobs in the District in 1997 than in 1996, the majority
of these (67.9%) being full-time.
